Six-vehicle crash leads to injuries and shuts down interstate

Our readers may have seen reports about a car accident scene on Interstate 64 that occurred recently and which had a large-scale impact on traffic in the westbound lanes. According to the reports, the accident occurred on September 19 during the evening commute hours in Kanawha County.

The reports indicate that law enforcement officials who investigated the crash scene determined that the chain reaction accident scene was caused by a driver who was reportedly speeding and driving erratically, and who "cut across" traffic. It appears that up to 10 vehicles were involved in the ensuing calamity, with the accident scene shutting down traffic and backing other cars up for almost four miles. When it was all said and done, the reports indicate that three vehicles involved in the collision had to be towed away from the accident scene and two people were transported for medical care due to injuries suffered in the collision. The initial reports did not include any details about the severity of the injuries.

Speeding is fairly common, especially on interstates. Most people go above the speed limits at times, but we all need to be aware of the potential danger involved in this driving behavior. When cars are traveling at 60 to 70 miles per hour, or even faster, it doesn't take much to cause a significant car accident, as this recent chain reaction incident on Interstate 64 shows.

Anyone in West Virginia who has been injured in a car accident may have legal options. A personal injury lawsuit could result in an award of financial compensation for injured victims.
